Farming Activities

Shalom Community Development Projects … building futures … empowering a community

All the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds that we sow today

Future sustainability is a vital part of the project.¬† Approximately 3.5 acres of land is currently available for farming activities to provide¬† food for the children’s home and generate some income to help cover the project’s running costs.

A 60 ft well and 300 ft irrigation bore have been sunk to provide water for irrigation and drip irrigation has been installed to water 120 fruit trees and half an acre of vegetable gardens.

Dependant on rainfall and water availability, the rest of the land can be used to grow crops such as rice, corn, sugar cane, bananas and groundnuts.

A small dairy herd is also being established and chickens geese, ducks and turkeys provide meat and eggs for sale and consumption.
