Medical Camps

Shalom Community Development Projects … building futures … empowering a community

Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together…. Paul Ryan

Diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV and tuberculosis are common diseases amongst the poor in rural parts of India.  With no medical facilities in the village, people from Erampatti have to travel to Alanganallur or Madurai to seek medical treatment.  This can be difficult for the elderly and those with young children, so diseases sometimes go undetected or untreated.

With the assistance of the Russ Foundation and medical staff from Madurai, the project hosted its first general medical camp in the village in January 2014.  179 villagers were assessed for various diseases and given free medicines and vaccinations.  Mini medical clinics are also held at the Children’s Home a few times a year.
