New Playground

Shalom Community Development Projects … building futures … empowering a community

“Every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities”.

UN Rights of the Child Article 31

In January 2015 some of our Children’s sponsors visited Shalom and helped build a beautiful new playground for the children and their friends from the village to play on.  The new playground includes, tyre play and balance areas, a climbing frame, see-saws, double slide and swings.

Play is an important parts of a child’s development.  When a child plays they use their imagination, they explore, characterise, discover, organise, lead, delegate, contribute, relate ideas, question, compromise, follow.  They work both co-operatively and independently, create, socialise, practice caring and sharing, regulate their emotions, engage their senses, re-enact experiences, tell stories, negotiate and problem solve.*
