New School Toilets

Shalom Community Development Projects … building futures … empowering a community

The secret to change is not to focus on fighting the old, but on building the new …. Socrates

Like many rural schools in India, the toilets in the village school were broken and unusable and open drains carried water and rubbish through the playground attracting rats and mosquitoes.

This situation not only put the community’s health at risk, but studies show that teenage girls in India who attend school without proper toilets, stay home up to 5 days a month missing vital lessons.

Thanks to the fantastic fundraising efforts of Payne Road State School in Brisbane Australia, Erampatti Village School now has new toilets, with water tanks to supply water for hand washing and a septic tank and drainage pipes to dispose of waste safely.
